I have 20 bumgenius version 3 nappies that are my everyday use stock. They are birth to potty nappies and I have been using them since my son was 6 weeks old.
Early months:
You can be changing nappy up to 10 times a day! (I didn't believe that but it's true)
Later on:
As time goes on you settle for between 4-6 nappy changes a day.
If you're using disposables it costs in the region of £970 (source Money Saving Expert 2010), my stock of reusable nappies cost £275. That is a massive saving. Especially when you consider that £275 will be used on future children. Using disposables you are going to be spending around £970 again and again.
You can spend as much or as little as you like on reusables - the more you have the more turnaround time before they are needed again.
Re-sale potential:
An often over looked area, if I was to re-sell I could potentially get £100 for my stock, that's nearly half what I paid for it back! You can't do that with disposables lol.
Washing costs:
There is no need to wash at temperatures higher than 60 degrees and by line drying, not tumble drying the washing costs will be minimal. In the beginning I was doing 2 or 3 loads a week, but now I only do one nappy wash a week. You use a quarter of the washing powder that you would on a normal wash so that cost is lower too.
Out and About:
Needn't be a hassle. There are a fabulous range of wet bags that can be used to carry your dirty nappies around until you get home. |
